I have been here since December and visited numerous churches, however I have yet to find anything to my comfort. Something between 100 and 200 members; praise and worship, but nothing forceful; preferably one that offers an evening service on Sundays as well; and focuses on the Word of the Lord. I don't think this is much to ask for, but I've had so much trouble finding it.

I have an already very long on going custody matter, in which I have already invested over 40K. I lost the good employment that was helping me pay for the legal fees and the financial backer that was helping me as well, both due to company downsizing. I have tried going through legal aid in my state and area. According to the legal aid's home office I fully qualified, my case was classified emergency and high priority and due to the specific aspects of this case I was supposedly being rapidly bumped up the list. But the head of the local office finds this all amusing, she has called to laugh at me once when telling me they would not help me. Then contacted me again, after I reported her to the home office, claiming she never called me and it must have been someone else and she doesn't know who. Same voice, same woman. She gave me a bunch of mumbo jumbo trying to get me to give up on my child, ridiculing me, and refused to give me the referral needed for another agency to help me. My daughter and I need an attorney to help ensure her safety and well being. The situation she is in is grave. But no one will listen to me without an attorney to speak for me. We're rapidly running out of time. The pro bono service provided by my state's Bar Associates just has you call the state's lawyer referral service, which is not helpful. I no longer have thousands and thousands of dollars, nor a way to make that kind of money in the time frame I have. I can not give up on my child, I am her only voice - since she is so little and the courts won't speak to her. DSS in my county is so corrupt, caring about numbers and statistics instead of children. Also it doesn't help all the influence that the opposing party's attorney has in DSS. My daughter is in a very bad situation, and it severely looks like only myself, family and friends are willing to help her. But no one that can do anything is listening. We need help. We need to find an attorney to take this case either pro bono or a sliding scale of some sort. If ANYONE knows of a way to find such an attorney, that will actually care and not just suck me dry financially, and help us please tell me. We're in the Fayetteville, NC area in Cumberland County.

Sounds like Legal Aid, the state bar association, DSS, the lawyer referral service, and whoever else are not willing to help you. So, you have to help yourself. Head over to the Clerk of Court's office and ask what forms you need to file to get a custody hearing scheduled. Let the court know you plan to proceed pro se - that is, you plan to represent yourself. Custody hearings are all about letting the judge know what the deal is, and why you are the better parent to have custody. Save your energy about accusing the other parent...instead, invest your time on explaining to the court why you are the good parent. Or, you can go back to the agencies you spoke of and just deal with them, even if they have irritated you by laughing at you. Tell them to represent you, and represent you now. - Stuart
